Weekly Preview – April 7 2008
DVD’s
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story – How can you go wrong with John C. Reilly starring in the latest Judd Apatow film? You can’t. Reilly is supported by a tremendous cast and many many cameos. Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Harold Ramis, shit even Frankie Muniz show up as character in Dewey’s amazing life. Walk Hard is simultaneously smart-funny and stupid-funny, so there’s sure to be a little of something for everyone. If you haven’t seen Walk Hard yet, do yourself a favor, as it was easily one of the funniest movies of last year.
There Will Be Blood – Daniel Day Lewis’s Oscar winning performance as an oil baron at the turn of the century, There Will Be Blood is a bit more serious in nature than Walk Hard, but certainly worth checking out. Lewis takes few roles and tends to do amazing things with them.
Also releasing this week, Lions For Lambs, The Water Horse, and Reservation Road, that is, if you’re into crappy movies or kid’s flicks. Or possibly just watching the trainwreck that is Tom Cruise.
New Movies

This week’s new movies include your token cheesy horror flick, remake edition, a boring looking chick flick and a new vehicle for Keanu Reeve’s confused looks.
Prom Night – Yet another foolish Horror movie remake, this time it’s the Prom Night (1980) getting the remake treatment.
Smart People – IMDB’s Outline: “Into the life of a widowed professor comes a new love and an unexpected visit from his adopted brother.” All that and Sarah Jessica Parker? This movie should come with warning labels.
Street Kings – Keanu Reeves and Forrest Whittaker in a cop’s struggle with the world as he finds himself up against the system. Adapted from a James Ellroy novel, as was LA Confidential, The Black Dahlia and Cop.
Television

South Park – Wed @ 10PM on Comedy Central
Last week’s episode, while not the best, had it’s moments. I’m sure you’ve had at least one internet meme of days gone by stuck in your noggin since the episode. For me, it’s been the haunting of the Numa Numa guy. Damn you South Park!. If you missed any of this season, be sure to check it out at SouthParkStudios.com
My Name is Earl – Thurs @ 8PM on NBC
Well, Earl returned and even featured a cameo by Paris Hilton without derailing. Last week’s episode left Earl still incapacitated, so it’ll be interesting to see how quickly that is resolved, as the preview certainly showed him ambulatory.
The Office Returns – Thurs @ 9PM on NBC
The Office returns from it’s Strike-Induced Hiatus this week with a new episode at 9PM.
The Sarah Jane Adventures US Premiere – Friday @ 7PM on SciFi
The premiere of the more family friendly Doctor Who spin-off (as opposed to the not very family friendly Torchwood), the Sarah Jane Adventures comes stateside on Friday. Featuring Sarah Jane Smith, originally a companion to the 3rd and 4th incarnations of the Doctor, who showed up in the excellent “School Reunion” episode of Doctor Who Series 2, check it out for your fix of the Who-niverse before the upcoming Series 4 premiere.
Battlestar Galactica – Friday @ 10PM on SciFi
Well, Season 4 is here and the premiere didn’t really tell us all that much. WTF is up with the 4 new Cylons? Who is the fifth Cylon? What the hell happened to Starbuck? Will Lee seriously run for President? Hopefully some more answers will be found in Friday’s follow-up to the premiere.
Video Games

This week’s new releases are mostly rehashes and re-releases of existing games in new and not ultimately exciting forms.
Half-Life 2 Episode 2 gets chopped up into Portal, TF2 and the Half-Life 2 Episode Pack. If you haven’t checked out these games yet, you’ve probably been living under a rock, and you’re most likely still better off picking up the original pack.
Assassin’s Creed makes it’s way to the PC, promising improved graphics if your system can handle it. Certainly an entertaining game, if you like Console -> PC ports.
Lastly, but certainly not least, Sam & Max Season 2 Episode 5 What’s New Beelzebub? will help you relive the glory days of adventure gaming with wit and homicidal rabbit-creatures. Gotta love Sam and Max.
