Weekly Preview – March 31 2008

This week we are kicking off several new weekly features here at dwot, including our Weekly Preview. Each Monday we’ll give you the low-down on the best new releases in Video Games & DVD’s, the Movie and Television premieres you don’t want to miss and more.

Sweeney Todd

DVD’s

The only real DVD release of note this week is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The Tim Burton musical starring Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter. Certainly worth a rental and watch, at the least.

The other new releases this week include such invigorating titles as Alvin & The Chipmunks, Murder She Wrote: Season Eight, and Becker Season One. Yikes!

New Movies

This week’s new movies include a football comedy from George Clooney, the Rolling Stones through the eyes of Martin Scorcese and cheesy looking horror flick.

Shine A Light: Legendary directory Martin Scorcese brings you legendary rockers, The Rolling Stones
Upside: It’s the Stones and Scorcese!
Downside: It’s the Stones and Scorcese and their both in their 60’s!

Leatherheads: George Clooney directing and starring with John “Jim from the Office” Krasinski and Renee Zellwigger in a comedy set in the developing pro football league of the 1920’s
Upside: Out of Sight / Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
Downside: License to Wed

The Ruins: Jena Malone and Iceman from X-Men encounter terror while on vacation in Mexico from spooky ruins.
Upside: Based on a novel by the author of A Simple Plan, Scott Smith, perhaps this movie will rise above the typical formulaic horror movie.
Downside: Honestly, when was the last good horror movie?

Television

Battlestar Galactica

Adult Swim – Tuesday @ 11PM
The folks at Adult Swim are cruel bastards. Over the years they have played some cruel pranks on their viewers on April 1st. Tune in Tuesday night and find out what those evil bastards are doing this year.

UFC Ultimate Fight Night 13 – Wed @ 7PM on Spike
Kenny Florian vs Joe Lauzon, Karo Parisyan vs Thiago Alves, Nate Diaz, Matt Hamill, and many others pack this talented and non-PPV UFC card.

The Ultimate Figher Season 7 Premiere – Wed @ 10PM on Spike
Team Rampage vs. Team Forrest pits current light-heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin, winner of the original Ultimate Fighter show. This should be a great season as Rampage is easily one of the most entertaining champions in MMA.

South Park – Wed @ 10PM on Comedy Central
Not sure what this weeks episode will be about, but recent episodes have been damn good, check them out as well as this weeks episode at SouthParkStudios.com

My Name is Earl Returns – Thurs @ 8PM on NBC
My Name is Earl returns with it’s first episode completed after the writer’s strike, a 1-hour episode with Alyssa Milano and Paris Hilton… Wait a second, WTF? Let’s hope this isn’t a shark-jumping guest-starring omen.

Battlestar Galactica Season 4 Premiere – Friday @ 10PM on SciFi
The much anticipated fourth and final season of Battlestar kicks off on Friday. Fans were left yelling “What the Frak?” after last season’s finale, which, will be replayed starting at 8pm in case you need a refresher.

Video Games

Games are exceptionally thin this week, no new releases of note that I’ve seen. Unless you count re-releases like Call of Duty 4: Game of the Year Edition for the 360 or Fable for the Mac. Hopefully the Rock Band DLC is solid this week.

So did we miss something? Let us know about our great trespasses against this weeks entertainment in the comments.
