Today is the last day of “Early Bird” Registration for PAX08, the Penny Arcade Expo which will take place in Seattle from Aug. 29th – 31st.
What is this PAX you say? According to the official FAQ:
PAX is a three-day game festival for tabletop, videogame, and PC gamers. We call it a festival because in addition to dedicated tournaments and freeplay areas we’ve got nerdcore concerts, panel discussions, the weekend-long Omegathon event, and an exhibitor hall filled with booths displaying the latest from top game publishers and developers. Even with all this amazing content the best part of PAX is hanging out with other people who know their shit when it comes to games.
This year will be my first PAX, as Seattle is a little bit of a haul from Upstate NY. Sounds like an absolutely amazing time, so sign up today and save $10 on your registration. See you there!
Wow. I don’t know how this wasn’t the #1 play on Sportscenter. Absolutely insane.
BoomsticK is a sweet new flash game from itch.com. Certainly worthy of wasting some time with, it’s a challenging shooter where you target menacing shapes. A spiritual successor to Space Invaders, as are so many excellent flash diversions. So what’s your high score?
Vista isn’t perfect, there’s a lot it does wrong and not much it’s truly gotten right. One of the most annoying and confusing things Microsoft has done with Vista is release a multitude of variants. Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate all different variants with different “feature-sets” at scaling prices. Opt for a version other than the pricey “Ultimate” and you may find yourself lacking some key features, like Remote Desktop. Sure, there’s VNC, but it’s not quite the same and can be a bit confusing to get up and running reliably. Microsoft will gladly ransom the locked features back to you for a stiff upgrade fee or you could always do a little tweaking and unlock the functionality yourself. After a quick search, I located the following sites. Follow the instructions here and you should be up and running. If you happen to be running Vista 64, as I am, you’ll need to get the 64 bit version of the termsrv.dll, which I found here. Happy hacking!
Like South Park? Check out creators Matt Parker and Trey Stone’s site, South Park Studios for every episode available in streaming form, as well as a bunch of clips, like the one above. Hulu, Adult Swim, ABC, South Park. I wonder what the cable companies think of all this…
Ireland and Alabama don’t have much in common. Except leprechauns. According to some of the citizens of our 45th smartest state.
Hilarious video, as long as you can get past the jackass commentary. Fortunately this version overlays the most annoying laughter with a pleasant and appropriate bit of musical accompaniment.
Mario really has had a pretty rough deal from Nintendo over the years. Nintendo’s poster boy is clearly the hardest working man in video games appearing in what seems like at new game every other week. Dig into his labor woes in open letter form.
